Far above the carnival
the stands and the hustle of life
rests a woman on a great walkway in the sky lined with shimmering silver

Beige and blush run across the fair skin of her fruit
sound of heart pulses in beating circles around her waveform necklace and bare chest
In the bright fog of day
the gate to her breasts is still covered in black
even the misty sun rays would not be able to soften the light behind the veil

Pockets of clouds barely tucked away in her valley
patches among the blue
as they move
start and stop
each gliding reveal and drawn curtain shows something new

Light running from sternum down the river of her abdomen
to the pool of her belly
placing pastel fingers across her hips
looking away to the side so the sun fades into breezing hair
the clouds gladly part to reveal rich brown eyes
lips in peak season

Even with the excitement below
the carnival in full swing
you can always stop and know
the flowing light in the walkway in the sky lined with silver
is shimmering

Little ones to him belong: they are weak, but He is strong.
Let us worship the one who raises the tide
lifts all boats
covers the earth
and makes it new

Weakness is like the dew of the morning
you have the day ahead to warm and dry
it may crack your skin
but in each passing of each age
you can accomplish what He has fashioned you in

The earth will respond as you grow in skill and the ways He has taught
To persevere requires patience
quiet effort
the hypocrite others don’t see
whose working steadily
chipping away at folly
becoming a deer panting for water
instead of a lost fawn

Every day I look into the eyes of my wife and see the striking life in her heart
somewhere along the way her expressions sometimes got lost in her mind
but even in a wheelchair her resounding resilience never left

She struggles to not look past my face to the other things around her
yet every time she lets my hands stay in hers
and when I play the guitar I can distinctly see all the memories we have are still inside
the strong reverberations of string and melodious song
bringing back the words of all the nights that were long with music

With each day that passes and my hands find hers
ever since everything changed
I’ve come to know love more than I knew I could
Getting here taught me that this always was how much I should

There’s a book held in this woman’s breast
You can see in her eyes it’s a mirror imparting words to and returning from the heart

When words are true they are naked
fleecing through herds of noise
when words are false they are clothed
ligature dressed to mask anger, vapidness, and conceit

Genuine expressions of what is real
stick with us and break fallacies’ seal

This woman with red around her eyes
a bandage around her wrist
could she be resting in the knowledge that thoughts don’t need to bleed
that critical thinking does not need the herd to confirm her calling and election?

That goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, and love
can be reminded of without the acceptance of every self-projection?

Water’s way is reflective
clear
what you see up close
is also a sound in your ear

The stillness of small swashes
constantly cast light and sound
what is light on the surface
weighs heavily on the ground

So too, a wonderful woman wet and exposed to blue sky and smooth hard floor of rock and sand
is like a floating object in the sound
what is above is what makes your heart skip a beat and fly with her in your hand
throwing elated light on the ocean of years
what is below affectionately walks with you through calm and deep fears
each step moving the weight of it all closer to shore

There’s a place deep in the jungle with the most beautiful flower
dusky from the sun
her stem shoots up to petals white in her hair

A blossom of white and bronze
black hair as dark as the deep beyond
eyes just as rich
dressed in sheer woven feminine sheath
an intricate soft cotton rope
woven with holes stretching and conforming all around
barely covering her hips
the strands drape from there around

With one leg lifted
her foot caressing the other standing stout
her hands trace the trunk and the leaves of this rainforest moment

Stepping forward
stretching arms overhead
she swings her hips to one side
gazing to the other
the seasons here don’t change
because she is nature’s mother

Now leaning one arm against bark
distinctly swaying lower body all the way away
bracing with toned figure
hips and face face the sky
with each passing moment fabric and skin
blending together
more and more in

Finally moving from the base of nature’s plot
making way to a tall wooden gate surrounded by stone
not nearly as sculpted as her slender muscular backside and bone
With one hand on the door
she stops and looks
the knitted wilds lace
slightly in motion
from waist down
as it wraps around a portion of her large round rear brawn
nature has said hello on this mother nature’s dawn

A dab on the nose
a dap in the water
there isn’t anything quite like an at-home spa day for mother and daughter
The little one with uproarious laughter, the big one grinning relieved
sometimes all that is needed for fun is a little reprieve

Matching towels, turbans, and robes
a little joy brings a little extra youth to their faces and to the day at hand
wishing it might never end

A shared world at home never feels too far
when teaching a child to give
a child gives a mom a beautiful reason to have fun and live

Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.

They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?”

“They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.

He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?

Who is it you’re looking for?
Rabboni, I have seen the Lord

Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”

Jesus said to her, “Mary.”

She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).

Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”

Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!”

Thin as a child
white as a bone

You’ve got dancing shoes
a pretty white dress
but you’re white as a ghost
thin as a sheet against pale moon

do you have something to eat?
lucidly translucent
are you moving adducent or abducent?

You’ve got flapping arms
small hollow eyes
but there’s a human inside
thin as a sheet against purple haze

Waifer wafer
You’ve got a home
thin as a child
white as a bone

You’ve got a heart
beating enough
to have color of skin
adipose as a human against daybreak

Waifer wafer
Here’s something to eat
a bit more impervious
warm in the mantle of courteous afternoon

breeze of the sky
from the blue of the ocean to the blue overhead
carry little Ms. Sunshine from the bow of the boat
to the hull of the clouds
so I can watch golden yellow pierce through
so I can smile into the soft natural light of you

Float back to me
on the whisps of the wind
winding down as night rolls in
our boat brings us home

They say a proposal starts with memories
but for you it’s with a song
They say a proposal starts with a story
but I knew you all along

You were there when I was a boy
the sandbox was our lot
Our parents ran after us
when we would make a fuss

The adventures may not be relatable
to those who met much later
But who can deny that one is dateable
when you can play pirates vs gator

It seemed we could fly to the sunset
like Wendy, Pan, and friends
for when we sprinkled fairy dust
we made cookies with powdered sugar
now we’re here
and I want to place this ring
on your finger

A veil of angelic sheen
floating gently in air of deep rested breath
greeting my eyes as they excitedly open at the dawn of the day
with each moment before you rise even my soft whispers are taken away

And when you grin
those perfect dimples and the radiant twinkle in your eyes
almost make me forget that there are other things to do
We work so well side by side
that leaving for any length of time gets me to labor fervently so that I can see your face again
Even the wind in our hearts seems to lift this veil of light between us
“Welcome, today is a lovers’ day, and so each one goes.” might be what the wind would say if it could speak.
For the cheeks that arise with your lips
I can see their contented bliss
and when you look out towards the horizon
you say with each sweet ascendant mourn
“I can only see the sun in front of us, and you light up my life even more than that. Are you my slice of Heaven?”

I am honored to say I have found someone with which I can declare, saying I love you is not enough. It’s just the beginning of what we share.

a furled blanket
fresh fruit
bread
and wine
a family of smiles and food amidst fields
celebrating a child
a union
a home

Do you believe in family?
It may seem obvious to some
though you may be surprised how many reject it
to feed one requires more than apples and grains

Look out ahead of you
for didn’t you know?
When two souls become one
their beliefs or lack thereof come in tow

Take the time to smile when its easy
take the time to laugh when its hard
because celebrations will come as stories do
but they only mean something if the morals ring true

The field is long
each season the path may have to be cut and not laid bare
but at the end of each one is the generation that sees more to life than vanity fair

In many long hallways underground
so many filled with browns and grays
a streak of orange and yellow seems a better place to wait for the train
I can hear voices in the distance
although it’s as quiet as grumbling ice in the tundra
there’s machinery somewhere
though not where I sit

The graffiti of life
it paints but contrasts
structure and anarchy
the just and the knife
I’ve seen it everywhere but here

There’s something about this underground corner that makes people stop
Maybe it’s that you can blink and miss your ride
or just that muted tones are the only kind of hide that speaks to the street
counter-culture but worn
chaotically neat
this place where I wait for the train

I can stretch to the tune of the drone
I can dress up, go out, and know I’ll make it home
but I want more than a corner of life that leaves me alone
that’s why I wear the colors of this hallway epitome
it’s survival to show my marks but let it be known
this place is where I wait for the train

She was a skater
coming around in cut off shorts
high socks
red rollers
and a penchant for smiling against the ocean breeze

He had a board
flat shoes
dressed in nothing but black
though he rocked a red beanie

You might think they had nothing to share
but one’s head matches the other’s feet
all you have to do is fill in in-between

moving back and forth
flipping tricks
ending with a kiss and a smile against ocean breezes
it made this one stick

You see
when you move on an axel and can maneuver a bowl
slide around and do a bit of walking on air
there isn’t anything that’s lighter than hands on each other’s waist and a kiss
maybe even alley-ooping down the aisle
a swing like this
it doesn’t miss

There’s something about dark black skin that’s like a fretless bass
open and rich
deep and distinct
waving in tune and tone
sliding along the fretboard as strings shake aural air

The sound of veneration is pin drop silent when unveiled dimly
yet resounding as constant rain
reflections of the world around bounce in blues and purples
glossy but matte
there is nothing quite the same
like a living jewel covered in frost
but the dew is thermal
Blood is blue under layer epidermal
the warmth of the dark is as red as the internal heat of this moment eternal

Bathed in a clean slate of sunlight
and autumn foliage in distance of sight
my love sits in a postured pose so broad from her hips to her knees
I wonder how many months
even years it took for her flower to feel the breeze

Firm everywhere that counts
soft everywhere that is needed
the smile for a workout together is greeted with a hopeful knowing
that to look and to hold
is okay when bravery for the future is paired with the bold

Reaching to the ceiling with one hand on the floor
moving with graceful might
she pushes me harder than each day before

pressing muscles farther in the heat of each other and the heat of daybreak
the contractions of our joint heart grow in our married splendor
quiet fingers with red tips trace from her hips to her knees
we both are reaching out
stretching with the ends of our fingers toward one another under the sun
building on this clean slate
driving each other forward until each day is done

Rainbow warrior
standing at the edge of light
what will you do
when it burns your eyes
taking color away
in blinding beams?
Retaliate from the seam at the threshold of existence!

Pull your sword
point it to the sky
reflect the white fire
into unseeing eyes
let color reign
can thought exist
without such searing pain

Half in ash
half in hue
can you cut through vile spew

Of this much you can be sure
if we rest there is no more
what is right
what is wrong
if we can’t see dark from light
to make it all crystal clear
we need our sight of mind

Red and orange
yellow, green
blue
indigo, violet

At the end there is no gold
if we pass in silence
a promise kept in the clouds
covenant of intent
the waters slow and still
yet we do not repent

Genesis 9:12-17

And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. O graceful ballerina with golden feet
rose in your tied back hair
and polka dotted pleat
it seems the ground on which you stand with your toes
knows that with enough practice even gravity only has so much force with which to oppose

Each muscle toned, slim, and fair from years of exercitation
demure and dapper
each arch and point to the body and into the air passes cradling time from the pastel reds of the morning
to the deep dark of night falling across your chest

When you leap it is as if the shadow of the sun spreads a smile behind you
Are your rose lips painted with the song of graceful measure
having pushed back with time against the master that is nature?

With each golden foot spread even wider than the excitement with which arms can greet
hands placed to the side, core held in, head held high
this hovering I can see spinning even across soft light
like an ornament of sheer spectacle
what a sight!
