Heads in The Sand

There are two curious sisters fishing by the shore
with nets on sticks purchased at a boardwalk store
“With these you can catch the fish in the shallow water”
the store owner said.
They thought it was rubbish when their parents seemed perplexed.
They’d been to this place dozens of times and never encountered such aquatic things so close to the sand.
But, here they are surprising themselves and their watchful guardians even more!

Perhaps when two heads have their heads in the sand
two more can pull them out
the youngest was yelping with energetic yips
“They caught a fish! They caught a fish!”
while the older held it in place with their hand
having an adventure together that no one expected
new memories in old places
life has a way of leaving us standing corrected
only for an unearthed mystery to reveal another layer perfected
