Ever since we were pieces of twine
I remember my sister’s hugs
she remembers mine
In her little pink sweater she didn’t want to ever stop wearing
she always laughed at mom when I hugged her hard enough it wouldn’t stay down
We were silly and saw the world for what it was
mom and dad and us
evening light
dirt tracks and waiting for the bus
Now that we’ve grown into trunks of our family tree
I can still see the twine worth remembering between her and me
Our bodies may whither
but the food that feeds that tree
is the same love that let us learn to be siblings
tried and true
To my sister,
I love you
