Part of Home
Poem #296 • They wondered if growing up meant giving each other up
Friends for so many years they can remember their little faces
making fun of each other for getting braces
caring enough to share each other’s toys
looking out for one another at school
being confident to cook while still not knowing what to do
As their worlds became a little bigger
they wondered if life might pull them away
if growing up meant giving each other up was a price they had to pay
Instead they found a window to the wider world
only meant that no matter how close or how far
that keeping each other close was no chore at all
Each time they meet
taking a picture from the windowsill from where they first played
talked about what they wanted out of each passing day
they never forget that however big or small
whatever stands in their individual way
their bond will always stand tall
that part of home is here to stay
