Poem #298 • What do you do when the street gangs up on you?
Wheeling and peeling
through a red hot road
there’s only one gear
one revving mode
high and hot
loud as the open road
it’s not too hard to crack this analog code
Red bikes
rubber streak
circles so tight it seems so bleak
there she is smiling
styling poise
hair raising in the heat and noise

What do you do when the street gangs up on you
take it like a champ
dance all the way through
command the way
turn the assault inside out
light the way
burn the flames out
---
Combustion
it's all inside
take that energy
let the bikes glide
move that piston
let the pressure expand
rise that temp
move forward on command
chemical, kinetic
ride like the wind
speak your mind with wheels worn thin
when you arrive
and the end is nigh
no one can say you let your dreams die
it's all phrenetic

Your poetry always feels sincere
There's something motivating about the way this poem refuses to let adversity have the final word. The imagery is vivid, but what really resonated with me was the mindset behind it: channeling energy instead of wasting it, meeting resistance with resolve, and refusing to let fear dictate the outcome.
