Swim, Don’t Tread

Cut off by the water
cut off by the air
my head has not been slaughtered
I just can’t kick my legs or plant them on the ground
I’ve frozen in the snare of despair

I know I can come up to the surface
swim through the deep
but something keeps me here
Am I worth it
do I have the faith and skill
from this author let me say
of course you can and will

It’s okay to be scared
to not know the direction to go
life’s full of chances that you can take
but if not
who you are you may never know

You are not a coward
not a little fly on the wall
you are the owner of one special life
the one gifted to us all

I praise God for you
thank Him for you
even though I do not know who you are or your name
we all contend with the weight of it all
may these words proclaim
you are of the same worth as each one throughout time
in that way we are the same
