Once the earth was formless and void
darkness swept over the surface of the deep
There was light
day and night
There was an expanse in the waters
the waters below heaven were gathered into one place
and dry land appeared

Then came vegetation
seasons and great lights to govern the cycles of day and night
then waters teemed with swarms of living creatures and birds flew above the earth
Beasts, creatures, and critters of the land

Henceforth from the dust of the ground and the breath of God
man rose from earthy sod
and built woman from his rib
thus completing the companionship of the human heart
