Laying in wait
a young woman lingers for her husband
surrounded by light in a room floating in morning illumination
Coming home early
a dream as rare as it seems these days
so too
she’s delightedly taken the time
put on makeup to make herself as fair as youth can
and encompassed the parts she bears for him in innocent floral white
Thoughts of him focus her hand on her heart
the soothing warmth of his traces make the horizons of her memories rise
lips parting as she exhales with expectation of press and release
The door latches in the distance
their smiles meet as they acknowledge the preparations they have made
there will be nothing lacking in this day they have been gifted to claim
