As fine lines and wrinkles deepen
the air around us and gravity sets in
the lessons learned with wisdom and a truthful mind
keep the spirit as young as it is old
a glimpse into the divine
One piece of wisdom I hope you have learned when you are young:
One who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.
When you grow older and children come
they will look at the faces of the ones they call mother and father
thinking, “At the very least they taught me truth is not always as it seems.”
—
One piece of wisdom deeper:
“Come now, let us reason together,” says the Lord, “though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow”
When you grow older and children come
they will look at the faces of the ones they call mother and father
thinking, “At the very least they taught me to think.”
—
One piece of wisdom deeper still:
“Test everything; hold fast what is good.”
When you grow older and children come
they will look at the faces of the ones they call mother and father
thinking, “I was taught to seek the truth.”
—
Last and most of all:
When you do not know where you are going, Jesus has said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
When you pass away and children grow
they will remember the faces of the ones they call mother and father
thinking, “They taught me what they believe, taught me to seek the truth, taught me how to think, and taught me that truth is not always as it seems.”
